My friend told me about a shortcut home on my bicycle, but I found this footbridge instead. Part of the bike route was closed due to construction, and I ended back on my normal bike path. Anyway, Rod Laver Arena (indicated by the arrow in the photo) is the main venue for Australian Open in tennis.
Bridge over the Yarra River. I took this photo from Southbank, a lovely area with restaurants and retail outlets. There is a lovely pedestrian promenade to people watch outdoors, or just to hang out with friends on the grass – a very popular place for tourists, as well as the locals.

I was intrigued by this structure in the foreground. Is it a bridge? And what are those bags? I looked around and could not find any info on this. In the background is a footbridge over the Yarra River. This is also in Southbank.

Here is a close-up. Bags with plants? I guess when the water level rises, these bags are submerged. A good self-watering method?

There was a wall behind me so I had to tilt my point and shoot to capture the other bit of the structure (on the right). Were the 2 parts connected at one time? Was it a bridge? Was it a jetty? Maybe someone who finds this post knows more about this, and can shed some light.
Happy Sunday. Do check out other bridges at Sunday Bridges.
