China in black and white
This is not a typical Chinese scene… I took this photo at a hotel in Hainan Island, China.
Hope you are having a nice weekend.

Sydney macro… and more
Thorny macro shot taken at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney – visit Macro Monday for more macro shots.

All in a row… No quite macro.
Recognise this? Close-up of Sydney Opera House
Maybe more recognisable here…?
Have a nice week.

Come to breakfast with me…

I hope you are hungry. Let’s start with coffee. The barista gives me heart-shaped patterns… A nice start :)
No sugar for me, thanks.

Tomato and poach eggs on thickly sliced bread, plus freshly squeezed juice

Evil looking eggs with grilled halloumi on fried corn bread.

Grilled eggs in tomato sauce

Roasted capsicum and eggplant with bacon. There are eggs too, but they are hiding somewhere in that pile…

Aaah, a healthy looking breakfast, with salmon (you can see it at the bottom right).

And on days when we don’t feel like eggs, a pile of mushroom with toast is just lovely.
Hope you are having a nice weekend.

In the city
Photos taken in Melbourne, Australia

I was in the city a few weeks ago. Christmas deco was still all over town… Starry sky for Skywatch

The Melbourne GPO dates back to mid-1800. It was a postal hall for a long time, but now it is a retail centre. I will take more photos when I am there next.

Outside the Melbourne GPO. I don’t know what this sculpture is about, but lots of people sit on it to get photographed.
A door securely padlocked in Melbourne’s Chinatown…
Hope you are having a nice week.

In black and white

This is a pedestrian bridge in Melbourne, Australia. Every time I use it, I feel like I am walking twice the distance to cross the road.
Visit Sunday Bridges to see other bridges.

Hungry?

A few more sketches from camping 2 months ago.

It was Sunday morning and many people were packing up to leave. This family of 4 took very long to fit everything back into their car. They had lots of things – luckily their car was big…

Our car was tiny compared to theirs. But we had no problem fitting in a tent, inflatable mattresses, clothing, a computer plus art materials. No problem packing up too… it was quick and easy.
Hope you are having a nice Sunday.

The beacon
Photos taken in Port Melbourne, Australia

Beacon standing all alone bathed by orange

Zooming in… I am not able to see those buildings with my eyes, but the camera did a good job (with 24 times zoom)
The pier behind gets busy during summer with cruise ships coming and going,
Another sunset
And another…
Happy Weekend.

Remembering Beijing…
I am having a few busy weeks but here are a few photos from my archive; all of them taken in Beijing last year.

It was mid afternoon around 3 o’clock. It was past lunch hour but we were able to find a dumpling shop. The dumplings were delicious and while we were eating, one of the staff was having an afternoon rest. It doesn’t look very comfortable but he was sound asleep.

Well, it’s past lunch hour. It’s not busy so if you had an early start, why not find a comfortable spot and close your eyes.

I saw this guy often in the fashionable Sanlitun area in Beijing. I wonder where his watermelon farm was… Must be rather boring for the horse.
These men were reading newspapers… I am not sure if they were special news or daily news.
We ate here once. Yummy barbequed skewered meat and noodles.
Till next time, I hope you are all well.

Sydney Harbour Bridge
The Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is supposedly one of the top things to do in Sydney. I have never done it but I guess the view must be fantastic up there. I know a friend who has done it twice.
The summit is 134 meters (440 feet approx) above Sydney Harbour.
Visit Louis at Sunday Bridges.

Ice Skating in Melbourne on my birthday
Today is my birthday.
My husband and I went to see the movie The King's Speech, which we both enjoyed very much. Have you seen it? It's quite funny, and very entertaining.

Yummy Udon in Kyoto
One of our most memorable meals in Kyoto was an udon (Japanese noodle) lunch, recommended by the proprietor of our hotel.
That’s my husband and I in the first photo. Like all tourists, we wanted some real Japanese experience and was especially thrilled when we seemed to be the only tourists eating there :).

The queue was rather long when we arrived, but we were told to expect that.

When we got closer, there were seats…

Still waiting for a table, we checked out what our people were eating. The little section to the left is the kitchen. See next 2 photos.

Lots of activities in the little space.

Sweet little jars for condiments

We had no problem ordering since we were told by the hotel proprietor what was good. Our cold udon came with a special sauce. Some tempura accompanied the udon.
The only problem I had was slurping, which I did not do very well. I need more practice :). The meal was おいしい/oishii/delicious.

Korean bridges
A few bridges in Busan, South Korea for Sunday Bridges
You have seen some foggy photos of Busan before. Here’s another – the bridge is hardly visible.

Same foggy afternoon

On an clearer day… a suspended bridge
More fog. I love this bridge full of flowers (yes, I have posted this photo before).

A bird for my Mom
I decided to paint a piece for my Mom. I hope she likes this little bird, which I had a lot of fun painting.I am planning to put a glaze over it, so it is still "work-in-progress" for now.
