This is an old oil painting of mine which is currently hanging on my studio wall. A fun piece for Illustration Friday – this week’s theme is “rescue”.

Sometimes doing something different helps me spice up my day. The Wii system used to be the norm, but since we don’t use it so much now, it’s great for our occasional “let’s do something different” – my husband and I love our occasional wii tennis. It’s also a great source of entertainment when friends visit.

We were holidaying in Ireland when we decided to upgrade our camera. Not a fancy one, but I was having fun playing with the new “toy” at the hotel…

What do you call the structure usually found at playgrounds for kids to climb?

The Melbourne Arts Centre is a fantastic place to go for performing arts. It’s also a funky building with lots of shadows take gave me a bit of challenge.

These photos were taken at the Melbourne Botanical Garden recently.
I was quite tempted to rotate this 180 degrees so that the trees stand upright, but decided against it after testing it a few times.
A duck having a nice swim. This is a different lake from the above.

My friends and I went to the Melbourne Botanical Garden for a picnic last Saturday. It was a beautiful sunny day.
I had so much fun taking photos, that I went back there this afternoon. The photo below was taken today – another lovely sunny day.

Wishing you Happy Weekend.

Amongst our favourite cafes for breakfast is one operated by an Italian man. He greets everyone with a grin, a boun giorno, plus a complimentary soda water served in a little shot glass.

I went to the Melbourne Botanical Garden on Saturday, and went a bit crazy taking photos at the succulent/cacti section. I haven’t gone through all the photos yet, but here’s one I’m happy with.

The locals refer to this building as Fed Square, which is a centre for cultural activities and entertainment. It is in the Melbourne CBD, and has a few galleries/museum, and restaurants, and has lots of ever changing events. I love visiting Fed Square; there is lots to see and do there.

On a sunny day, a web of shadows adds interest to the building due to the structure of Fed Square
A photo showing the structure of Fed Square. In the above photo, a small section of its external facade is shown on the right. It’s a beautiful structure, and I do apologize that I haven’t got a photo of the entire structure to show you. But click here for a good photo. (The blue building is Eureka Tower. I’ve got 2 photos here).

There is often a seagull perched on the top of this beacon. I wish there was one when I took this photo.

We went to St Kilda (an inner suburb of Melbourne) during the weekend. There were many people out and about enjoying the sunshine. Here are a few photos.
Luna Park is an amusement park. It dates back to early 1900, and has been operating continuously ever since.
The Palais Theatre, which also dates back to early 1900, is situated next to Luna Park. It is a venue for live performances.
Across the road, is the Hotel Esplanade, locally known as The Espy. It was built in late 1800s, and is now a pub.
This is a photo taken from a pedestrian bridge over the main road. The white building is St Kilda Sea Baths. Here are a couple of photos of St Kilda Sea Baths.
And turning to the right, we can see St Kilda Pier. Here are more photos of St Kilda Pier, including the St Kilda Pavilion, which is the building you see in the photo above.

I love their bright yellow life jackets. I wonder if there was a race on that day…

I took these photos a few days ago, on a sunny day out.

The tall building is the Eureka Tower, which is the world’s tallest residential tower. It measures 300 m / 984 ft.

Another view of the Eureka Tower; this photo is taken from the side.
The attractions in this building includes Skydeck 88, an observation deck on level 88, and The Edge, a glass cube that extends out of the building with visitors in it. I’ve been there and the view was fantastic.

Walking in the shadows of The Travellers, a series of giant steel sculptures on Sandridge Bridge, Melbourne.
Whenever I visit Box Hill, I forget that I am in Australia, as this suburb is largely populated by Asians. I love the shopping and food there.
Box Hill is 14 km / 8.7 miles east of the Melbourne CBD. It’s easy to get to by public transport from the CBD. Take tram no. 109 and get off at the last stop. But be prepared for a long ride because there are many stops in between.
When we got off the tram, we saw this wonderful shiny sculpture. And I thought of Weekend Reflections (Click on the link for more reflection photos).
The following photos have no reflections, but here is another sculpture in the shopping area.

I love shopping at the Asian grocery stores. It’s a trip down memory lane for me. Here, I am able to buy ingredients that my mom cooks with in Malaysia. We also visited our favourite Taiwanese noodle shop for a yummy bowl of beef noodle (left).
On the way back to the tram stop, I noticed 2 interesting looking buildings, shown in the next 2 photos.

She entertains children at weekend parties. That’s her job.
But who knows when disaster strikes, and the city needs their brave Superhero. Sometimes she forgets to change, to the amusement of the bad guys. But hey, she’s a Superhero, so she’s able to zip off and then return in her superhero outfit in a split second.
ps. using her superpower, she ensures that the bad guys forget the scene of her colourful outfit. She has to remain anonymous.
Superhero is my submission to this week’s Illustration Friday, with the theme “brave”.
