A moment's peace and calm

AMomentsPeaceDetail

A moment's peace and calm - what more can one ask for, except to enjoy and be one with the environment with a nice hot cup of chai tea with soy and honey?

This is the latest artwork that I've uploaded. Click here to view the entire image. Also made into T-shirt design, see below.

Ankle Update (again)

IMG_2307

Thank you to those who asked about my ankle. Sorry, this is the same image as last time, as there is not much change to it visually. However, I have some good news today :D.

My visit to the hospital confirmed that I will not be requiring the operation which the doctor told me about. Phew, that was my main concern! And what's more, I've got a new and improved cast! It's fiberglass - not only does it look better (an important aspect in this day and age), it's lighter! It's still got a hole where the toes stick out so I still have to wear my half-sock, but hey, can't complain - it sure beats the old plaster cast.

There were 2 previous post on my ankle and here they are:

Ankle update - posted June 17

P/s the visit to the hospital for a check-up took 5 hours. I had 3 main things that got done in that time - got an x-ray, saw a doctor and got my cast redone. There were so many people, but I'm glad my tax has been put to good use :). I must commend the hospital staff for their patience and dedication to help people.

Bored... teddies saved the day

juliebear lyon frederick mybear

I'm told tonight is the longest night... that's a nice way of looking at things, but that means that today is the shortest day! And true enough, it started getting dark at 5:30 pm! Oh dear, it's going to be another loooooong winter....

I'm not feeling miserable, just bored and uninspired, so I gathered some teddy bears who live with us, and asked if they wanted to have their portraits done. 4 of them said yes, and that pretty much kept me entertained today.

Clockwise from top left: Julie Bear who came from Daylesford (my friend Julie found her when we were having a girls day-out to Daylesford, in VIC downunder), Lyon (whom I met while in Lyon, France - he sort of smiled at me from the shop window and melted my heart), My Bear and Frederick (who are really adorable and are the right cuddle sizes).

More bears another day... stay tuned.

What I dream of... - new artwork

SheepCountry

This is titled "Sheep Country", a new piece I have just uploaded.

It about sheep, just sheep... Sometimes this is what I think about when I am trying to get to sleep… may also be because I’ve just been to England and have seen many sheep in the countryside. Or maybe I’ve eaten too much lamb and they are coming back to haunt me.

If you are attempting to count... total number of sheep is 119.

Here are some details from the piece:

Ankle update

IMG_2307

At breakfast yesterday, I started drawing and when I got home, I got a little carried away colouring it. Now that the plastered left ankle has got arms and a face (on the half-sock I was wearing*), I think perhaps I ought to give it a name!

What seemed like a little accident at tennis was more serious than I suspected. I was sent to the hospital by my GP to get my leg plastered. My bone was fractured and hopefully it heals well, and that I will not need an operation to place a metal plate inside :(. I will know in a few days time when I next visit the hospital .

*I now wear a half-sock on one foot - very unattractive. The plaster does not cover my toes and they get a bit cold. Unfortunately not even my largest sock is able to cover the plaster so I have to make do with a half-sock.

A broken leg - that's what happened last weekend

page1 copy

page2 copy

It was a 3-day weekend last weekend. We celebrated the Queen's birthday with a friendly tennis tournament, and as you can see from above, it did not end well for me unfortunately.

We made it pass round one to the finals, and my partner Lesley and I played against Steve and Jeremy. It was a hard match for us because the opponents were better players. Although we played off handicap (we were given free points because of the difference in skill), Lesley and I struggled to retrieve their shots. We were down 4-2 and it was 40-love to them in the next game. Jeremy was serving a tricky one and in desperation, I tried to return it and disaster happened! Embarrassingly my friends carried me off the court and I sat through the rest of the tournament, and finally watched Jeremy and Steve winning and becoming champions for the day.

I have now seen a physiotherapist and am waiting for the X-ray results. I am using crutches to help me move around, and I won't be stepping into the tennis club for a while.

Angel Godmother - new artwork

AngelGodmother

I went to life drawing again after 2 years. It was loads of fun, and because I was so out of practice I was really tired after the 2 hour session.

I kept looking at my sketchbook the following week and she looks kinda lonely on a white page amongst other lonely people who live in my sketchbook... so I thought she needed some colour and some friends and to be in a nice environment.

I also wanted her to be glorious and pure, so I added wings and left her without clothes. All the elements were drawn in pencil, and coloured in Photoshop. It was a fun project for me, hope you enjoy the work too... click here to see a larger image.

So much to be happy about !

I'm feeling happy today... mostly because I'm happy and that my friends are happy.

I met up with a friend who is getting her divorced finalised soon, and she's happy about it. She's met many helpful people along the process and she's thankful for that.

Another friend who been depressed because she felt the struggle of the life of an artist has got a casual job in a major art gallery. She's happy and that makes me happy that things are looking up. Baby steps...

A call came from a long time friend who was mourning the death of her father. She came to terms with the loss and decided it was time to move on with her life.

My friend is about to submit the final assignment for the course that she's taking. She's feeling relieved (actually it was more like "yay!!"), and she's going to dedicate the next few weeks painting for an upcoming exhibition, which she is of course excited about.

Another friend has an upcoming exhibition starting next week!

A friend has got her role expanded at work, and the new work she now has to take on is something she has always wanted to do.

My friend is looking forward to improving her tennis skills and has decided that she will play tennis more often. I'm looking forward to the result.

At dinner last night, my friend says she is going to Hong Kong for a holiday with her sister. She's looking forward to eating some good food.

At the same dinner, a friend has gone to an interview for a marketing role. She is hopeful and fingers crossed, she gets the job.

There is an upcoming lunch appointment with my friends. They are celebrating the survival of year one with their twins!!

Friends have had a holiday in Oman, and they had such a great time. Now they are back in Melbourne, feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

A friend has gotten a job in Dubai and is moving there in a month. A new phase in his life - good luck!

Another friend whom I haven't met in a while, now has a 4 month-old baby. "The baby is a good boy", he says :)

I'm happy simply because life is fantastic - I have a great family and many great friends :). I love my job and my art :) and everyday I feel lucky because I am able to do what I love.
