Hainan Island food and sketches

When visiting a new place, I love eating what the locals eat and going where the locals go. When we were in Hainan Island recently, we stumbled upon this little shop. It turned out to be a nice little adventure, and we had a really nice meal.

It was a simple noodle shop with a few tables on the street, in front of the shop.

They only had a Chinese menu, which we could not read. With my limited knowledge of the language, we managed to place our order. It turned out to be a really successful order :). The above is a bowl of noodle in spicy broth and meat. It was really good.

The bowl of wonton in soup was good too…

The above is a bowl of noodle with pickled vegetables. It was also really yummy.

Food Sketches

Sometimes during mealtimes, I have time to sketch; here are a few pages from my sketchbook:

Cross if you dare!

When I saw this “bridge” in Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), I thought of Sunday Bridge Series immediately.

Cameron Highlands has lots of farms (vegetables and flowers) and this bridge enables farm workers to cross the stream separating the farm from the main road – extremely functional but not for everyone!

Bird Market

The Yuen Po Bird Market was rather interesting to visit.

It was common to see men with their cages in one hand (I wonder why I only saw men) like in the photo above, around the area.

Hong Kong reflections – quiet spaces

I have had a fantastic time in Hong Kong. It is a busy city, but we were able to find places which were quiet to just sit and relax.

This photo was taken on a open air top floor coffee shop/wine bar. It had  fantastic views of the harbour on one side and tall buildings on the other. As I was framing the view above, I saw the little girl through my lens. I thought the timing was perfect as I held my breathe, and took the shot.

ps. Visit James at Weekend Reflections for more creative reflection shots

On the same floor as the cafe, I found this roof-top garden. I had the whole place to myself for a little while.

And here is another empty spot (in the same building) to sit and read or sketch, many floors above ground level.

At ground level, we found this green area in a park…

In the same park, we found a spot to sit and relax with soothing sounds of water…Visit Scenic Sunday for more scenic photos.

I hope you are having a nice weekend. I am no longer in Hong Kong, but I will share a few more photos in the coming posts. Thank you for visiting me when I was unable to access blogger, but I am back and will come by to your blog soon :).
