Hutong life in Beijing

Hutong is a description for small narrow streets with traditional houses in Beijing. While holidaying in Beijing, I spent my first week in a hutong guesthouse. Here are a few photos; hopefully they give a sense of what a hutong is like…

Brooms, mops and all sorts of household items are displayed in the front of this provision shop.

We had breakfast here some mornings. They serve lovely dumplings. On one morning, I spotted this group sitting at our favourite table. Notice the old man on the right, all dressed up from head to toe in traditional Chinese costume!

My favourite corner which is just outside the guesthouse, but I’ve never seen anyone sit here…

A narrow street in the hutong, with impressive power lines… (more on this in my previous post).

More photos in Scenic Sunday.

Have a fantastic week.
